Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived to a musical family 9 August 1993, in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the cousin of daughter to singing superstar Dionne. When she was a little girl, Houston began performing professionally in the choir of her church. She was a backing vocalist for Chaka Khosns 1978 single Im Every Woman with her mother. In 1981, she briefly did a stint as a fashion model, and was featured on the Seventeen Cover. She also provided the backing vocals for Jermaine and Lou Rawls. The singer was first a featured vocalist for the New York-based New York Funk band Material. The quality of her vocal work attracted attention from the major label Arista where she signed up in 1983. Whitney Houston, her debut album, released in 1985 was the top-selling album of an unproven singer. A number of hit singles, such as Saving All My Love For You How Can I Tell You If That You Love Me and The Greatest Love of All were released from the album, setting her up to smash the Beatles record with seven consecutive US top 10s. Album sold in US 3,000,000 copies before it went to 25,000,000 worldwide. This brought her first of her six Grammy Awards. Its Whitney 1987 record, which included Where Do Broken Hearts and I Wanna Dance With Somebody as hits, helped build upon her success. However, the 1992 movie The Bodyguard sealed her spot among the top-selling musicians of all-time. The film and her part as a character was not appreciated, but the music and her interpretation of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You were charting for months at the top of the charts. In all, she sold more than 44 million albums and singles across the globe. Her daughter Bobbi is born March of 1993, the year following her wedding to Bobby Brown.
